A Day at the Rose Bowl Flea Market

Ray and I got up at 3:15 this morning and headed over to the Rose Bowl with a friend to get in line for the 4 am opening for vendors.  It was dark outside and chilly and on the way we say several Uber drivers letting people off at their homes after long nights of heavy partying.  One guy had his bag from In and Out Burger as he stumbled from the Uber to his apartment. Here we were just getting up while these people were just going to bed.  I was glad I was on my end of that equation.

Once at the Rose Bowl, we headed in with all the other vendors, found our space and started unloading.  We were finished in less than an hour – all set up with tables decorated with our wares and the pop-up sun shade also up even though the sun was just turning the sky pink in the east. By this time, several dealers had already come by with their flashlights, peering at our merchandise and asking exactly what we were selling.  We even made a few quick sales and it wasn’t even 7 am yet.

Our day was slow but sure.  People coming into our booth, pursuing our merchandise, asking questions and occasionally buying.  We saw several old friends we’ve known for over 30 years and made a few new ones. We don’t sell very often at the Rose Bowl so this was fun.  It took Ray and me back to our early years when we were full-time antique dealers immediately after we got married.  We made lots of friends during that time and, yes, some of those same friends were there today.

We started packing up by 2:30 and were driving away by 4. We had been there exactly 12 hours.  We were both pleased with our day, especially after stopping by to see Sarah, Gregorio, Luna and Nico for a quick visit since they now live in Pasadena.

Now I am headed out to walk the dogs and then going to bed.  Time for R & R after a job well done.

Good night, my friends. I’ll be checking back in with you tomorrow.
